Diet for allergies

A food allergies is an overreaction of the body’s immune system to contact with a foreign irritant. Allergic reactions are susceptible to both adults and children. Moreover, sometimes intolerance to a familiar product can manifest itself at an older age, and sometimes a fragile children’s digestive system reacts sharply to allergens, but adapts as they grow up and the problem goes away.

Although the symptoms are somehow related to the body’s immune response, allergies can manifest themselves in different ways: hyperthermia, itching and peeling, rash, redness of the skin caused by capillary dilation and high blood pressure. Severe attacks require immediate medical attention.

Diet for allergies

If the product that causes allergies is known, it is enough to exclude it from the diet. However, the exact establishment of the stimulus is not always easy, since it is necessary to measure the body’s response to each of the possible allergens separately.

In this case, a universal diet for allergic skin diseases comes to the rescue. Doctors recommend a non-specific hypoallergenic diet to reduce the load on the body and speedy recovery, while the nature of the allergen is not important.

Unwanted Products

It is worth remembering that the predisposition to allergies for each person primarily depends on his individual characteristics. However, it has been proven that some dishes provoke allergic reactions more than others; according to the degree of influence, highly, medium and slightly allergenic products are distinguished.

First of all, it is required to exclude alcohol, too spicy and salty foods, smoked meats, yeast pastries and coffee. Also among the prohibited:

  • semi-finished meat products (sausages, sausages, cutlets);
  • poultry meat (chicken, turkey, goose);
  • Fish and seafood;
  • eggs and milk;
  • all citrus fruits, pineapples, grapes;
  • fruits and vegetables of red or orange color (strawberries, melons, watermelons, as well as tomatoes, bell peppers, etc.);
  • honey and chocolate;
  • spices and sauces (including mayonnaise, mustard and vinegar);
  • sharp root crops (horseradish, radish, radish);
  • nuts and peanuts.

You should also pay attention to the method of preparation. During the period of exacerbation of allergies, it is better to refuse fried foods.

Approved Products

Hypoallergenic products include:

  • lean beef;
  • cereals;
  • soups with cereals (vegetarian or beef broth);
  • boiled potatoes;
  • fermented milk products without additives (cottage cheese, curdled milk, natural yoghurts);
  • fresh herbs and cucumbers;
  • whole grain and white lean bread;
  • baked apples;
  • tea;
  • dried fruit compote (except raisins);
  • sugar.

Preference should be given to boiled, stewed and baked dishes.

Sample menu for allergies

Our nutrition should always be balanced, as the lack of essential trace elements weakens the body and makes it vulnerable to various diseases. With the exclusion from the diet of a number of familiar products, you should especially carefully approach the preparation of the menu. For example, it might look like this:

Breakfast

Oatmeal with dried fruits and green tea.

Snack

Kefir, banana or biscuit cookies.

Dinner

First: rice soup with low-fat meat broth or vegetarian borscht made from allowed vegetables.

Second: stewed cabbage with boiled beef or steam rabbit cutlets.

afternoon tea

Natural yogurt or dried fruit compote.

Dinner

Buckwheat, cucumber and cabbage salad with herbs.

General recommendations

For recovery, it is important to observe not only the diet, but also a healthy lifestyle:

  • do not smoke yourself and avoid exposure to cigarette smoke;
  • abstain from alcohol;
  • follow a balanced diet;
  • moderate physical activity will ensure the production of adrenaline;
  • healthy sleep will reduce cortisol levels.
